childhood

today i discovered that i was a major creep, even as a child. here are a few exerpts from my spelling test sentences in 2002:

"The young dog braced himself for the inevitable attack. A few yards away, the collie crouched low, lips drawn back, then sprange for the vulnerable throat before him. The young dog was a hopeless fighter."

what in the world? what went on in my mind? oh wait, it gets worse.

"The old woman sat down near the fireplace and took off her head. She set it on her knees like a pumpkin. After a bit, she put her head back on her shoulders and looked at herself."

took off her head? why? what kind of derranged child thinks of these things?

enough of that. here is me bragging about my exceptional spelling abilities as a ten year old:

i could spell:
laryngitis
impertinence
vulnerable
inevitable

i could not spell: (exact spelling)
peculuer
metomorphisis
orginization
matenance
microrganism
furtilizer
feild
reivew

okay, so it appears the second list is longer. but in reality i got over 100% on every test. there you go. i am a champion of a speller.

on a different note, i was a major suck-up. i discovered a thanksgiving journal, which featured such statements as:

"This morning, when my mom woke me up, I thought about all of the orphins and how they have no parents to love and support them."

giant lie. what child thinks that as they wake up in the morning?

"I am so grateful for my teacher, Mrs. deWet. She is so kind to me and she is awesome. Mrs. deWet ROCKS!"

i definitely knew she would be reading this.

on another different note (this part is for jamie & liza, so the rest of you children don't have to waste your time reading it)
this is what i found relating to the two of you (in fifth grade):

"Dear Journal,
Over the weekend I played with my friends Eliza and Jamie a lot. I am so thankful for my friends, and that they are so kind to me. Friendship is a wonderful thing. I am so glad that my friends care for me and that they are well enough to come to school every day. I am so thankful for my friends."

furthermore, there is a wonderful illustration which portrays liza as a misucule girl with no shoes, jamie as a deformed girl with one giant hand, and me standing in the middle with giant shoe-laces.
